Located in Harihareshwar in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, the Harihareshwar Temple is a renowned pilgrimage site surrounded by beaches. It was built in the medieval period and consists of two temple complexes. The main temple is preceded by the smaller Kalbhairav Temple. Idols of Shiva, Parvati, Vishnu and Brahma are worshipped in the temple which is also popularly referred to as the ‘House of God’ or ‘Devghar’. It also consists of a Pradakshina Marg which was built by Chandrarao More. The Harihareshwar Temple was often visited by Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj back in 1674. It was exposed to an unfortunate fire and was later renovated by Peshwa Bajirao I in 1723.


This heritage site offers a picturesque respite to tourists from all across the country since it is foiled by three beaches and layered with four holy hills in the area. You can find this temple resting at the stretch of the Raigad beaches consisting of the Diveagar, Shrivardhan and Harihareshwar beaches. It is also surrounded by the Harshinachal, Harihar, Pushpadri and Brahmadri hills. Whether you make a quick trip or plan a long stay, you can enjoy traversing along this holy site and admire its natural beauty.
