Location

Elephanta Island, or Gharapuri, is the home of the Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich with history. Accessible only by a ferry, this small island is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mumbai which in addition to the caves and Buddhist stupa mounds that date back to the 2nd century BCE, also has multiple temples where devotees can offer their prayers and seek the blessings of Hindu Gods and Goddesses.
